Anuschka handbags were first designed by Roma Basu in 1984, after it's original founder Swapan Basu (her husband) pursued an opportunity to make these hand painted bags and accessories on leather. Over time, Roma perfected her design and the company's methods are a carefully guarded secret. But it was not until the year 2000 that the first Anuschka handbag was sold, after their son, Bhaskar pushed for fresh and bold new styles and designs. He also helped launch the company into the fashion world, giving it more exposure and broadening its fan base. Every Anuschka handbag is painstakingly hand painted, and Roma has tried to find young artists who need the money to provide for their families to paint the unique bags.
